Electricity principles cont. electrical circuits are usually diagramed and explained with an illustration known as a schematic. schematic diagrams use symbols representing electrical devices and connections to clarify and map out a circuit. a schematic of this project can be found in the following pages fig.1 ; procedures use figure 2 to aid in construction ; please note: wires are labeled w1-w4, and connections are represented by dots. 1. check and test all your components. a. check your buzzer and or lights, and note polarity. b. positive + ; is usually red, and negative - ; is usually black. if your components don't work, try to switch the polarity. 2. make or find a base for your electrical circuit. balsa wood can be used, it is readily found in hobby or hardware stores, then plan and lay out your circuit on the base. 3. the switch will consist of a simple touch relay connection using paperclips and an optional piece of metal. a. cut a piece of wire approximately 10" long w1 ; , and strip both ends of the wire expose metal that is insulated by the plastic about inch ; . c. on each end, coil the stripped sections of the wire around paperclips see illustration 1c. ; . one will connect to the battery; the other will be our switch. the switch will work when you tap the loose paperclip with a metal contact on the base of the unit. 4. plan where you would like your devices to be fixed onto the base; it is important to keep the device's polarity in mind. if you plan on using a thin metal plate, make a paperclip connection on one end of w2, clip that end to the metal plate, then connect the other end to your first device w2, to the light bulb, or the buzzer ; . 5. once you are certain where and how your components will be laid out, glue or fix them on the base, and make all the connections. a. cut a wire approximately 5 inches in length, and make a paperclip connector on one end, this end will be connected to the other end of the battery w4 ; . connect the other end of this wire into your final device buzzer or light bulb ; . b. if you are only using one device, this will be your final connection. if you are connecting two devices, make your final connection with a small piece of wire connecting the two remaining connection w3 ; . when your circuit is fully connected, tap the switch and if everything is properly connected, it should work. see illustrations and schematics ; 6. two units can be connected and used just like the original invention. build two units, connect each of the first and last connections of devices marked with an * in fig.2 ; . cut the wires to any length desired, just keep in mind that the longer the wires, the sooner the batteries will be drained. if polarity is correct, you can send messages through wires make sure an adult aids or supervises with the connection of the circuits and stripping of wires. Dcms comments clause references: feb 04 draft ; the government does not intend that the gambling bill regulate or control prize competitions. as ms fitzgerald explained during her evidence to the committee, some prize competitions are more akin to gambling than others. the effect of the bill is that, where a so-called "prize competition" does actually represent gambling whether it is betting, gaming, or a lottery the gambling commission will be able to take action if that gambling has been offered unlawfully. the government is not convinced that there is anything that a clause about prize competitions in this bill could usefully say. it is not intended that prize competitions be subject to a licensing regime, and for the reasons explained above, we do not think it would be helpful to replicate the existing law at section 14 1 ; b ; the lotteries and amusements act 1976. continued answer: in light of the above, it is not clear to what restrictions prize competitions should be subject, except that they should not consist of gambling, unless they are suitably licensed or otherwise authorised under the bill. the bill provides for that already or play free poker online. Make small talk or pretend to enjoy it. i wanted to be alone with lisa. i wanted to connect with her. when the first drip of sweat rolled down my forehead, i jumped up. i couldn't take it. "i'll be right back, " i said. i needed to sarge--not because i wanted to pick up women, b u t because i wanted to get into a positive state and talkai walked out of papa's room a n d left the house. i h a headache. it h a been a long day. as i started down the hill to grab a burrito at poquito mas, a black mercedes convertible whipped around the corner and began climbing the hill. inside were two blondes. the car screeched to a halt in front of me, and a voice yelled my name from the driver's seat. it was lisa. my heart skipped a beat. she wore a red diesel jacket with a wide rainbow collar that made her look like a cross between a supermodel and a racecar driver. i was unshaven, wearing sweatpants, and frazzled from debating with my roommates all day. i felt so many emotions at once: embarrassment, excitement, resentment, fear, joy. i didn't think i was ever going to see her again. "we're going to get a drink, " lisa yelled. "do you want to join us?" "what are you doing here?" i tried to keep my cool and appear unfazed by her sudden reappearance. "going to the whiskey bar." "didn't you just pass it?" "yeah. i came by to ask you to go with us. do you have a problem with that?" a touch of attitude. i still liked her. she was a challenge. she didn't let any sarcasm, neg, or cocky funny get past her without a verbal smackdown. "let me change, " i said, "and i'll meet you there." i slipped on a pair of levi's red jeans with fake cat scratches down the front and a military-collared button-down shirt i'd b o u australia, and ran down the hill to join them. i was anxious to talk to lisa and find o u t why she'd disappeared after atlanta. but when i arrived, lisa and sam were at a table with two stocky, heavily tattooed rockers. they were the type of guys i h a imagined lisa dating. i sat between them, dwarfed by ink and hair dye. as they gossiped about local rock scenesters i neither knew nor cared about, an overwhelming anxiety took hold of my body. i didn't want to tive mood. otherwise i was going to just crack sitting there so awkwardly. as i ordered a drink at the bar, i smelled lilacs behind me. i turned a r o see two women in black evening dresses. "hey guys, let me get your opinion on something, " i began, with a little less enthusiasm t h a usual. "let me guess, " one of the women said. "you have a friend whose girlfriend is jealous because he still talks to his ex from college." "like, every guy keeps asking us that, " her friend said. "what's the deal?" i grabbed my jack and coke and shuffled out to the smoking patio-- the site of my pickup battle with heidi fleiss. with some trepidation, i delivered the spells opener to a two-set sitting on a bench. fortunately, they hadn't heard it. "hey, " i said afterward. i really wasn't feeling it, b u t i wanted to push myself to be talkative. "how long have you guys known each other?" "about ten years, " one of the girls said. "i could tell. i have to give you guys the best friends test." "oh, we know that one already, " she said politely. it had finally happened: the sunset strip was sarged out. the community had grown large and reckless; too many competing businesses were teaching the same material. and we had saturated more t h a just los angeles. puas in san diego, montreal, new york, san francisco, and toronto had been reporting the same problem lately: they were running out of fresh girls to sarge. i walked back to lisa and her friends. "i'm wiped out, " i told lisa. "i'm going to head home. but i'm driving to malibu tomorrow to surf. you and sam should join me. it'll be fun." she looked up at me, and we connected for the first time all evening. for three extraordinary seconds, the rest of the club disappeared. "yeah, all right, " she said. "sounds cool." "great. meet me at the house at noon." connection over.
September 2, 2006: walking barefoot along the muddy fields, with shoes and slippers on their hands, hundreds of young students from nepalganj city reached the remote floodstricken chauferi village of banke district in a rush to reach rice, dal, salt, sugar and clothes to the starving villagers. "it was a small price to pay for us but we got so much in return during such a critical time, " says 15-year-old anjali acharya as she hands over a pack of rice to a famished 60-year-old woman who had not eaten rice for almost a week. the heavy monsoon rains in west nepal during the third week of august devastated around 13 districts with monstrous floods and landslides killing over 50 people, destroying over 10, 000 metric tonnes of foodgrains and affecting over 60, 000 villagers. among the worst hit were villages from banke, bardiya, achham, nawalparasi and mugu. as the news of destruction splashed all across the country, a group of students and teachers from the angels boarding school of nepalganj decided that they should do their own humanitarian bit. all students and teachers contributed from their pockets voluntarily and collected as much food materials and clothes as they could in the limited time they had. in less than four days, they managed to raise enough money and materials to help 550 families in the chuferi village providing food to last for over a week. "i've never done any charitable work in my life. now i know how great it feels, " says an excited student, anupama chand. her friends join in young students of angels boarding school walking and scream with their food aid for the starving villagers in with joy as they remote chauferi village where the government had all walk with still not reached with humanitarian help. sacks of rice and bags of clothes on their shoulders, heads and backs. so, crossing the huge rapti river, young teenagers from the angels boarding school sing with joy and reach the village where the children, women and men receive them with joy and gratitude. "thank you, children. you are our heroes, " says a tear-filled 30-year-old phulkala khatig, who with her two little daughters, has been sleeping under a tent after their house and food were swept away by the rapti river. over 2, 000 villagers lined up cheerfully, each of them expressing their gratitude towards the young kids from the city. with a week gone by since the river broke its banks, the government or the ngos had still not provided rice to so many of the affected families. it was one single school that proved that all one needs is action and less bureaucracy to help those most in need. for the first time in a whole week, thousands of children and their parents from this village were able to eat rice and not the mud-filled wheat and barley that they have been surviving on so far.
